Music Review
Nobigdyl is a well established artist who continues to master his unique sound. With this album “The People We Become” you can hear his keen ability to present encouraging messages, and give you witty and crafty lyrics. The cover art give a sense of focus on nobigdyl. But curiosity as there’s a few random people in the background (two of them with their hands on his shoulders).
It’s exciting to have a full album where he is holistic and meaningful in his message about his relationship with God. He gives you his opinions and feelings about a lot of subjects on his albums. There are strong topics that stick out to me. Those topics are about his pain and how he deals with it; the fact that he can’t do without God; his struggling faith in God; and his intelligence beyond loving people and dealing with people.
One thing I admire and often hear throughout this album is that he’s working to be a better him. There’s struggles that he sees in himself and other people, but instead of pointing the finger at others he’s pointing to himself to grow closer to God. While I was listening to this album, I felt more inclined to hear what he was saying. He always uses his capability to be playful with his lyrics but on this album it carried more of a serious tone.
Overall nobigdyl. has some strong and almost personal themes on many of his songs on this album. This album is more conscious then his previous albums like “Lowercase Tape.” and Slowercase Tape.” The style of many of his tracks on “The People We Became” is conscious rap and boom bap. There’s also an “East Coast” style that I hear consistently throughout this album.
