Praise God Simply Because He Is Holy | He Is Forever Holy

Kyle Alexander - Know Not What They Do, Ft. Mali Music

Understanding God is Holy

From the dawn of creation, humanity has been invited into the overflowing beauty of divine praise, not merely because God is powerful or loving, but because He is supremely—simply—holy and perfect. His holiness is not an attribute among many; it is the foundation upon which every other attribute stands. In Isaiah’s vision in chapter 6, the seraphim cry out, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3). Here, holiness is worship incarnate—an echo of heaven reaching into the human heart to awaken awe and recognition.

To praise God for His holiness is to acknowledge that He is utterly set apart from all imperfection, failure, and sin.

Revelation 4:8 offers a heavenly mirror to Isaiah’s scene: “And the four living creatures... day and night they never cease to say, ‘Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!’” (Revelation 4:8). This triumphant chorus of worship carries us beyond time, past what was and is, into what will be—into the eternity of His unchanging holiness. It proclaims that God's perfection is timeless, a continuous source of adoration that the entire universe—and all beings within it—cannot exhaust.

Ultimately, praising God for His holiness is foundational to Christian worship and spiritual life. His holiness reminds us that perfection resides not in our efforts, but in His essence—He alone is holy, constant, and true. When we join with Isaiah’s seraphim and heaven’s living creatures, we position our hearts to be transformed by awe, to reflect His character more clearly, and to live in reconciliation and devotion to the One who is perfectly holy.

How Do We Position Ourselves To Praise God Because He Is Holy

To praise God for His holiness, believers should approach Him with hearts (Psalm 57:1-17) prepared through sincere confession and repentance (Matthew 3:2), striving to reflect His holiness in daily life. This praise is expressed through both personal devotion and corporate worship, as we actively acknowledge His perfect attributes, offer gratitude for His countless blessings, and submit to His sovereign rule over all things.

Hebrews 12:14 reminds us that without holiness, no one will see the Lord. The challenge is that God’s standard of holiness is nothing less than absolute perfection. His own flawless holiness is the measure against which all humanity is judged. The apostle Peter affirmed this when he wrote, “It is written: ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:16). Jesus echoed the same standard, declaring, “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).
