Lecrae's Interview with CBS in Texas

Lecrae’s recent interview on CBS News gave fans and viewers a deeper look into the heart behind his latest album and the bigger mission surrounding it. The rapper and author explained that his new project isn’t just music—it’s a reflection of broken people and broken places that need healing and restoration. Lecrae shared that he wants to take that message beyond the studio and into real life, starting with Dallas and Fort Worth, where he hopes to activate change and create initiatives that address struggles many face, including housing and community challenges.

In the interview, Lecrae emphasized that he doesn’t want listeners to only enjoy the music but to truly see the message come alive. “I don’t want people to just listen to the music, but I want to really do what the album is about,” he explained. This vision shows how personal the album is, especially since it touches on themes connected to his own roots and upbringing. It’s about embodying the lyrics—turning art into action and offering tangible hope to those in need.

Another highlight of the conversation came when Lecrae was asked about his relationship with Kendrick Lamar. While the two share respect as artists, and he didn't want to force anything on Kendrick Lamar when it came to spiritual and personal reasons and not artist reasons. He mentions that he didn't want to violate the artistic side of things.

Lecrae pointed that he wants to continue to build bridges— with other artists across the industry. For him, music is more than a career; it’s a way to connect faith with culture, creating dialogue and understanding between worlds that often seem divided. Through this interview, Lecrae made it clear that his mission extends far beyond the microphone. His album becomes a blueprint for real-life transformation, where artistry meets activism, and faith inspires tangible change in communities that need it most.

On the heels of his new album “Reconstruction”, Lecrae partnered with a nonprofit, Human Impact, to focus on addressing the needs of the unhoused.

“Mitch Darrell dives into Reconstruction with both passion and precision, opening with a bold declaration that Lecrae has returned stronger than ever. He highlights the album’s raw vulnerability and powerful storytelling, noting that tracks like ‘Headphones’ (with T.I. and Killer Mike) bring a healing depth rarely heard in hip-hop. Mitch praises the lyrical edge of “Tell No Lie” and the emotional resilience in songs like “Better Sober” and “Still Here,” calling Reconstruction a brave and uplifting journey through grief, faith, and renewal. His tone is empathetic yet sharp—as if he’s both listening and speaking from the heart—and he leaves us eager to listen again, feeling seen and rebuilt alongside Lecrae.”

When God renews our minds, He begins the process of reconstructing us from the inside out. Romans 12:2 reminds us that we are not to conform to the patterns of this world, but instead be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This renewal happens as we meditate on the Word of God day and night, allowing His truth to reshape our thoughts, our desires, and our decisions. Through this continual process, God breaks down the lies and destructive patterns of the world, rebuilding us into vessels that reflect His will, His peace, and His righteousness.

The purpose of this renewal is not just change for change’s sake, but a forward movement in Christ. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 3:18, we are being transformed from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord. This means that every stage of our walk with God is designed for growth, deeper intimacy, and greater power in His Spirit. The reconstruction of our minds equips us to live victoriously, walking in increasing levels of spiritual authority and reflecting the image of Christ more and more each day.

In the New Testament, Paul uses the Greek word anakainōsis to describe this renewal of the mind. While the Hebrew Scriptures don’t carry this exact concept, the closest related word is chadash (חָדָשׁ), meaning “new” or “to renew.” This Hebrew word emphasizes a sense of freshness or restoration, often tied to God’s mercies being made new each morning (Lamentations 3:23). The Greek term, however, carries the idea of an inner transformation, a reconstruction that makes us entirely different in our thinking and living. Together, these concepts show us that God’s plan of renewal is both restorative and transformative—giving us a new beginning while also reshaping us into who He has called us to be.
